Hoover Savvy Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner

The Hoover Savvy Bag-less Upright U8174900 is a potent vacuum cleaner that combines the patented Wind Tunnel technology with two air paths working simultaneously to create a strong suction that deep cleans carpets. There is striking twin chamber bag-less dirt cup that can conveniently be drained. This model offers a rather unusual “lifetime warranty” for its belt. Another not so common feature is the inclusion of an Embedded Dirt Finder that provides a visual indication in the form of a green light that confirms the cleanliness of the carpet. It is provided with a Custom Control Switch that enables the operator to change over from cleaning of a carpet to that of a bare floor vacuuming with an effortless touch of a switch. The HEPA filter is excellent as it removes nearly 100% of dust mites and the pollens responsible for hay fever. Now, that’s a boon for allergy sufferers!

This Hoover vacuum cleaner is reasonably priced at around $150-$200 dollars. Some of the helpful features of this model include a low profile hood design that lets the operator clean the area beneath the furniture, the on board tool kit, and the 15″ cleaning path. There is a very liberal cord length of 31 feet, definitely longer than most of the cords available with residential vacuum cleaners. The Savvy comes with an accessory kit and a powered hand tool that finds a good application with upholstery and carpeted stairs. The obvious benefit of a bag-less vacuum system is that you don’t have to replace bags. The belt on this vacuum cleaner is believed to last for the lifetime of the vacuum cleaner.

Despite some of the nice features of this machine, certain claims that Hoover makes about this model seem a bit far-fetched. Let’s talk about “lifetime” vacuum cleaner belt. Now that’s a serious claim and sounds too good to be true. Any belt for that mater would break and getting a replacement is a big hassle that may necessitate a service call. The warranty should cover such an eventuality as the belt is allocated as a lifetime part. As there is some subjective evidence that such claims were denied by Hoover in the past, it may be suggested to keep records of purchase by way of a receipt, UPC code, etc. The term “lifetime” can be misleading for vacuum cleaners sold under $200. Unless it is defined, the actual lifetime may be quite short. Vacuum cleaners in this price range are generally categorized as disposables simply because the expense that may accrue for the repairs can amount to be more than the worth of the cleaner itself.

Other shortcomings of this machine are: It is heavy and thus can get cumbersome after a prolonged period of cleaning. The hose attachment is slightly on the shorter side and using the tools looks a bit complicated, but overall, the pet hand tool is quite useful for getting rid of debris trapped in upholstery fibers. The plastic knobs and dials on this Hoover model cause doubts on the durability of these parts. Though a good looking machine otherwise, the plastic gives a cheap appearance on comparing with some of the vacuum cleaners of the same price range.

On the whole, the Hoover Savvy Bag-less vacuum cleaner has much to offer for its price of less than $200, but other more dependable models with better features are available for the same kind of money. The major concern is the “lifetime” belt that pronounces death of the machine if it breaks down after the expiry of one-year warranty period.

Hoover SteamVac

It is a great thing to see that one product gets so many positive reviews. I have to tell you that this doesn’t happen often. I visit Epinions.com and Amazon.com a lot and I rarely see that more than 90% of the people write positive reviews on any product, be it vacuum cleaner, juicer or a plasma TV. And Hoover SteamVac is one of those great appliances. Lets start with the review, I know you will like it and probably will be tempted to buy SteamVac yourself.

First, it is quite easy to follow the setup manual and all instructions. And when you are finished and put it to use, you realize it does just as good job as a commercial rental cleaning unit. While you will have to fill and empty the tanks more often than a commercial vacuum cleaner - it is MUCH easier to do this using Hoover SteamVac. First of all - to fill it you take the cleaning solution tank OFF the unit easily and carry it to the sink. This beats pouring hot water into rental and spilling water on the rug (always seems to happen with rentals). The dirty water tank comes off easily also and empties without spilling. You can get drips off the lid which you remove to empty - so set it in the sink (I always empty into the toilet since the water is too nasty to put in your sink). Steam Vac makes it all look so easy.

Also, operating this Hoover vacuum is very easy and the recommended motion to use spelled out in the manual is the way to go. It is light-weight for the job it does and is not all that loud (almost anyone will be able to carry it up the steps to a second floor with its front handle). It does a very nice job of extracting the water from the carpeting.

The only thing I am a bit disappointed with is the fact that the stair tool sprays water in a very wide pattern rather than matching the suction area. For this reason you should do the steps front to back and not side-to-side. In other words, start from the back of the step and pull toward the riser. When you do this, you will have to watch how quickly the spray pattern arrives at the riser before the vacuum.

All-In-All, I would absolutely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a carpet cleaner to use in their home and have the convenience of doing as much or as little of your house as you so desire. The price is moderate but just right for the value Hoover StaemVac offers to the customer. I urge you to check it out and compare it with other vacuum cleanerrs in this price range.

TurboPower 2 Vacuum Review

This is quite an old machine now but i expect you can still get hold of them on ebay. I bought TurboPower 2 many years ago and its still going strong. The purchase price was $99 reduced from $199.

It is an upright cleaner with a replaceable bag but a permabag is available. Spares are still readily available as both the bags and drive belts require replacement due to wear and tear. The bag is very easy to change, just open the front door by means of a button, unclip the bag, clip a new bag in and then close again and your ready to roll again.

The drive belt does snap occasionally mainly due to bloackages. Its fairly easy to replace, turn the machine off and unplug. Turn the machine on its side to access the base, undo a couple of screws and remove the base plate, remove the remains of the old belt, stretch a new one in place, replace the base plate and then carry on again.

The best feature of this vacuum is the autosense, this increases the power to pick up whatever has activated the sensor. Such items that can cause it to happen is normally a bit of gravel or grit that has come off someones shoes from outside.
After many years this feature is still fully functional. It is averagely loud in use but when the autosense kicks in the noise does increase some what.

The overall body colour of the hoover is a dark blue with sparkly bits but other colours were available such as red. It has four height settings that raise or lower the hoover depending on floor type.
The floor type options are short pile, medium, pile, long pile/rugs and the final setting is for very long carpet pile which is also the setting for the use of the tools.

When using the tools it is recommended that the turbo button is depressed to give maximum power, this turns off the autosense though. Turbo power can be turned on or off on any of the settings.
For hoovering under tables and cabinets the handle can be lowered so its horizontal this is achieved by pressing the handle adjustment button with your foot.

The front of the TurboPower 2 vacuum cleaner is where the on/off switch is and also the turbo button. There are 3 lights between these two buttons that show you the power the machine is running at, below that is a light that is illuminated if there is a blockage or the bag is full. This light may flicker when using the tool setting though.

Tools with the machine are a long flexible hose, a 2 piece solid tube that can be used as one length or just one piece used. The long flexible hose is useful for hoovering stairs but due to the weight of the machine its heavy to carry up and down stairs.

The electric wire for the machine is adequate but a longer one would be better but an extention lead can be used. The wire is wound round a couple of parts to keep it neat. Teh top one swivels to release the wire quickly and the bottom one is also the carrying handle.
I would recommend TurboPower 2 as it has lasted me a long time and will keep going for a long time yet.

Hoover Vortex V2000 Review

When I moved in to my first (and current) flat 3 years ago I had precious little in the way of household appliances. The smaller things (kettles, toasters, irons etc) weren’t too much of a problem but larger items like vacuum cleaners were significantly more expensive. So I borrowed my mums old Hoover.

An old blue ‘upright’ cleaner, it served me well until that fateful day when my girlfriend used it to suck up a load of water. It was never the same after that, air smelled musty, the motor began to reek of ozone and I generally feared for my life every time I used it. Something had to be done, I was quite happy to let the carpet fend for itself but girlfriend insisted that a new Vortex V2000 vacuum cleaner was needed. Not having found DooYoo at the time and knowing precious little about vacuum cleaners anyway, I asked my mum. I mean, who else would I ask?

As usual, mum came up with the goods. She had recently purchased a new Hoover (to replace the trusty old blue upright that had mysteriously vanished) and was more than happy to extoll it’s virtues. first off, it was not just another Hoover. Oh no, this one was a Hoover ‘Vortex’. Based on a principal so similar to the Dyson ‘Cyclone’ that patent lawyers must have been rubbing their hands together in delight, it was a bagless cleaner thay boasted no loss of suction. Plus you could see all the dust swirling round as you vacuumed. Add to that a self-retracting cable, a 1500watt motor, a 2 litre ‘jug’ into which all the dirt goes and a deviously stowed selection of ‘attachments’ and it appeared to be the Hoover-owners dream.

Astute readers may have noticed that the above is written in the past tense. This is for two reasons. Firstly, because it happened in the past (about 18 months ago). Secondly because, having purchased the exact same Hoover Vortex model as my dear old mum, I am no longer quite so impressed with it. Why has it fallen so quickly from grace? Well to be fair, it wasn’t a rapid descent.

When we got the thing home and out of the box, we took it for a test-run. The amount of dirt/dust it extracted from a small section of carpet was amazing. I was actually worried that the concrete floor would be eroded away through the carpet! In fact such was the novelty of being able to see the dust build up that we actually fought over who was going to do the hoovering! This didn’t last for too long though. After the dust came the bits of carpet, swirling frantically around the clear plastic jug that had so neatly replaced the good old hoover bag. In use, the hoover was light enough to push around the room with ease (although our carpet is far from deep-pile).

The extension hoses and nozzles all neatly stored in the handle of the hoover meant that there was no more rummaging around in the cupboard under the stairs to find them. It was also the first hoover I’d used that had a self-retracting cable, and what a labour saving invention that is! The clear plastic ‘jug’ meant that it was easy to see when you need to empty it and the actual emptying of the jug is considerably easier (and far less messy!) than the old hoover-bags used to be. And the noise, don’t forget the noise! Whereas the old hoover used to hum along in a muffled fashion this thing roared furiously. No longer was it possible to remain seated in the lounge watching TV, lifting your feet up when the need arose. There was simply no point in trying to watch/listen to anything while the hoover was on, but this was a minor inconvenience.

But after what seemed cruelly close to 12 months, disaster struck. Now that we were comfortably outside of the manufacturers warranty, and having made certain that we hadn’t paid for a warranty extension, the motor decided to burn out. Not in a particularly glamorous style, but enough to render the device useless. It started with the now ominous smell of Ozone, that sharp, acidic, metallic taste that really hits the back of your throat. Every time the Hoover Vortex V2000 was used it left behind it a horrific stench which could only be dispersed by leaving all the windows open.

This lasted for about a week after which, the hoover made an ominous popping sound mid ‘push’ and simply stopped working. Oh dear. A quick call to the local hoover repair-man later and we were off to his shop with the casualty in the back of the car. Two days later we returned to collect the Hoover Vortex V2000 and left £65 pounds worse off. Apparently this is the cost of a new Hoover motor.. Now to have one hoover motor burn-out after a year could be considered unfortunate. but to have two burn out? Surely this is something more than bad luck.

Well, as you have probably guessed I can be considered unlucky when it comes to hoovers. Just over a week ago our hoover (the one with the 6-month old motor in it) began to smell of Ozone for the second time. To date the motor is still working, but the Ozone is getting stronger with each use. It gets used more sparingly these days in the hope that, somehow, it will be able to heal itself. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s going to. So it looks like I will soon be staring at another bill for £65. All of a sudden, the extra 3 years warranty for £50 seems like such a good idea. If only I’d known at the time!

On it’s own, you may think that this was just an isolated incident. That perhaps I am just doubly unlucky when it comes to affairs of the vacuum cleaner. Or maybe that I went to a ‘dodgey’ repair-man who simply reconditioned the motor rather than fit a new one. I know I would be thinking these same things if it hadn’t been for the fact that my mums hoover (which, you may recall, is the very same model as mine) suffered almost the exact same problem. Smell of Ozone, pop of the motor and it was good-night Axminster. A replacement motor and 10 months later and she went and bought a Dyson, something that I am considering myself should the motor burn out again.

And this time I will make sure I get the extended warranty!

Could Hoover WindTunnel Be The Best Vacuum?

If you have used a vacuum cleaner, then you understand that they are two types: the canister vacuum and the upright vacuum. Unlike automobiles, which come out each year with sleek new looks and more tech gadgetry, vacuums don’t change much. Just think of your pair of work boots. They are not fashion accessories, except in the case of certain brands of British work boots. Vacuums are no way to become trendy. As you hunt for the best vacuum cleaner, you probably narrow down to a few choices like Hoover Windtunnel.

If men can travel back and forth to moon, doctors have the pleasure of transplanting organs, and you would always anticipate for the newest model of mobile phone, what could stop these crazy inventors from creating a vacuum cleaner that is intelligent enough to clean your home whenever it is dirty?

It is a drudgery to vacuum your home on Saturday morning. Owning an quality vacuum like Hoover WindTunnel could give you a clean squeaky floor or carpet. If not, you probably run it around for the vicarious pleasure and to negate the guilt for not at least making the effort. So, you have to put it away in the store. So why do vacuums not enjoy a better reputation with the housekeeper? How do we perceive it? Maybe the outlook portrays its usefulness. Not having enough taste? Maybe it looks clumsy to handle. Well, it could not be any of them.

Every housekeeper wish they can possess the best vacuum cleaner that make the money worth spending. Isn’t it marvelous that the best vacuum cleaner reduce your workload in cleaning your home. Imagine that tangling with the rug edges and mechanical skills for assembling and disassembling are the thing of the past. I couldn’t be so happy with the attachments that are fitted into this light and powerful vacuum, accommodating to my height. The days are gone when you have to spend a few minutes to get the upright body position and bend for at least 30 minutes to perform deep cleaning. It doesn’t seem like much to ask, does it?

The first item on your agenda that you should do before you buy a vacuum cleaner is compile a list of available models and study each model. You don’t need all the features but only those can match your requirements Lightweight is good. Don’t forget about maneuverability. Never use price as a quality benchmark. During my second last purchases, I came to my senses that I should get the best selling model for reliability and performance. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

My last purchase connected me with my best vacuum cleaner. I studied the comments and complaints that were available at the customer product rating, allowing me to get what I needed for reliable vacuum. Still going like a champ, lightweight, fleet-footed and powerful. Probably after listening to my pathetic story, you could possess the best vacuum cleaner in the world.

Hoover FloorMate

Hoover FloorMate is an all-around cleaner that will take care of your hard surface floors first and then will vacuum, mop and dry your floors as an addition. It’s a great combination of an carpet cleaner, floor cleaner and an upright vacuum cleaner. It’s a kind of vacuum we dream about and wish to own it. If you spare some money, you could have it. But before that, read this Hoover FloorMate review.

You won’t have to use another cleaner in addition to this one, the Hoover FloorMate can vacuum hard surfaces with a simple switch that engages dry vac. The suction is not all mighty, but it is more then enough to satisfy the needs you have. You will see that the dirt will disappear and that is most important. You only won’t get large debris since the furniture guard is making it difficult for a FloorMate to pick it. But you can use it quite well under bathroom and kitchen cabinets, since it has a profile for it. Sometimes you may want to sweep a floor before you use this Hoover vacuum, to get better results. Also, take care to push down the floor mate and allow its nozzle to lift so the large pieces can be sucked in.

Hoover FloorMate

While the vacuuming is not the main strength of this cleaner, floor washing definitely is. When you set Hoover FloorMate to washing mode, the cleaning solution and brushes will do their job perfectly. You can clean hardwood, tiles and other types of flooring and scrub all types of dirts. The brushes are really powerful, spinning at 350 revolution per minute, so you don’t have to use much of your own strength to clean harder dirt.

When you take a look at the collection tank, you will see how Hoover FloorMate did his job. First, you will see that he really cleared the dirt and second, that it has been all sucked up. There are more then few cleaners who leave the dirt on the floor, because they don’t have the power to suck it up. Well, that is definitely not the case with Hoover Floor Mate. And you won’t have to go up and down across the stains, one or two passes will be quite enough to get rid of the stain.

As you know, cleaning the floor is a job that doesn’t stop when your cleaner stops. You have to watch the wet floor from enemies like children, pets and husbands who like to dirty them again. And this is where a great feature of Hoover FlorMate comes into place. The wet pickup mode will dry the floor quite quickly. The extra water on the floor will be sucked up from all types of floors. This is especially cool if you have a sealed hardwood floors.

When you finish your cleaning round, you can store your Hoover FloorMate very easily. It has folding handles which help you to find place for him in the closet. And his portable kit will find space in there too. It’s really designed in such a way that you don’t have to loose time over some minor issues, like removing tanks to clean then and fill them with water. You won’t be bothered by maintenance, because everything is taken care of by FloorMate himself.

This vacuum cleaner is for you if you have a lot of hard surface floors in your home. You don’t want to clean it with your hands, while on your knees. Thats is why this cleaner is so convenient. It will help you with vacuuming too, which is an extra value for the Hoover FloorMate you shouldn’t forget.
